The Terracast Products Step Planter

Installation Information

The Pride Plaza at the intersection of SW 12th Ave and Harvey Milk Street in Portland is a prime example of how public spaces can be transformed to enhance community engagement and support local businesses. Originally established as a temporary street plaza during the pandemic, it provided residents and businesses with a safe and welcoming outdoor gathering space while also showcasing public art.

In 2022, with the help of a federal grant, the Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT) made the plaza a permanent fixture, replacing the temporary orange and white barricades with durable and vibrant TerraCast planters. These planters not only beautify the area but are also inspired by successful public street plazas implemented by the New York Department of Transportation.

Today, Pride Plaza serves as a lively and permanent hub for the community to gather, dine, and celebrate.

Location: Portland, Oregon
Project Year: 2023
