Installation Information

Delaware DOT faced a challenge with their aging street light poles: the decorative aluminum base covers were in disrepair, allowing water and pests to infiltrate the structures. The department was unable to locate the original manufacturer, leaving them with limited options for replacement. TerraCast stepped in to provide a durable and effective solution. By replicating the existing aluminum base design using its high-quality resin material, TerraCast offered a replacement that not only matched the aesthetic but also addressed the functional issues. The resin construction provided superior protection against water intrusion and pest infestation.

The resin material's non-porous nature effectively repels water, preventing moisture from penetrating the base and causing internal damage. Additionally, the resin's smooth surface and lack of crevices make it unattractive to pests like field mice, deterring them from seeking shelter within the base. To further enhance protection, TerraCast incorporated a 45-degree bevel on the bottom inner edge of the base cover, allowing for a more secure fit around the concrete pad and minimizing gaps that could serve as entry points for pests. This thoughtful design detail helped to prevent water from pooling beneath the base, reducing the risk of corrosion and mold growth.
